It takes better embouchure control than I possess to play each note of these alphorn calls in tune without wavering in pitch. I felt confident that my construction of the G and A tubes was sufficient for a horn professional to play them perfectly, and Mark Robbins validated this confidence :)

I had no concern about the A-Flat tube, which was made by one of Switzerland's finest alphorn makers, Walter Bachmann.

Playing in a concert hall rather than in a small garage is also a huge benefit for the quality of sound.

What If?

What IF Richard Strauss had in mind having the alphorn calls played in the lower octave, as written in the score, rather than according to the "old notation" convention, which means the calls are to be played an octave higher?
