Salzburg

If you come to Salzburg, purchase the Salzburg Card! We each got a 3-day card which covered bus to city center (which I would not have wished to drive) and all entrance fees to main attractions. Our itinerary for one of our days in Salzburg: (1) Festung Hohensalzburg. 2-3 hours and worth every wow moment (there were too many of those to count) (2) 45-min boat trip on the Salzach River, a nice rest after walking 6 miles at the Festung and in the city center. (3) Mozart's Geburtshaus. (4) Cafe Tomaselli, where Mozart is said to have been a frequent visitor. (5) We saw several settings from "The Sound of Music."

On another day it rained in the morning, and that turned out to be the perfect time for to do laundry. After the wildly entertaining laundry morning, we had time for visiting the less exclusive and more affordable shops in the Altstadt in the Linzer Gasse. At Zur Küchenfee, a fun kitchen shop, we bought an Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher (!) (We were "introduced" to this amazing device in Kiel. Click here to see more about it.) We got a good lunch tip from the owner of Zur Küchenfee, at the Gasthof Alter Fuchs, which was very reasonably priced and very delicious. Cathy found her now favorite shop in Salzburg, Strumpf-Schmidi, where she got a couple Strumpfhosen and we each got a knit hat for the ice cave trip (which we later decided not to do). Oh, I also got a pair of Original Austrian Trachten-socks. The Mirabell Palace Gardens were everything and more than we expected! The Nonnberg Abbey, and St. Peter's Cemetery and Catacombs were unplanned gems. Super yummy tort at the Cafe Fürst, with the original Mozart Kugeln, ended another fantastic day in Salzburg. Lots of Sound of Music scenes today!

Sachertorte with cappucinos. Delicious.

And of course one must visit the home of the "Original" Salzburg Mozartkugel:
Cafe Konditorei Fürst.

Sachertorte, Cappuccino, Sorbet, AND a Mozartkugel :)

Purchased a piece of Salzburg rock salt. Quite tasty :)

Found some nice souvenirs for friends at home.

Boat trip on the Salzach River

Backpacks full of laundry to do. Getting there by bus.

Google Map location of Norge Waschsalon

Great lunch menu at Gasthof Alter Fuchs close to the Waschsalon

Strumpf Schmidi: Fun store to look for socks!

They also had hats! We both still wear these 4 years later :)
I now wear the Trachtensocks with my Lederhosen when I play alphorn at events.

And across from Gasthof Alter Fuchs - Zur Küchenfee
with a large selection of Eierschallensollbruchstellenverursacher!

"Liked" the Küchenfee Facebook, and left a comment :)
